This is the full artwork that I did for the header banner for the month of March for the FF7 Citadel's 10th Anniversary Special. The theme was "the Planet".
In a way, this piece tells the entire story of FFVII. The Planet is represented by a Yin&Yang symbol. I made the usually white part (Yang) of the symbol green & swirly, to represent the Lifestream (emanating from Cloud's Buster Sword), and the usually black circle in it a reddish black/purple colour, to represent the Black (Meteor) Materia. I made the usually black part (Yin) of the symbol a reddish black colour & swirly, to represent the Geostigma Stream ("JENOVA's memetic legacy") (emanating from Sephiroth's Masamune Nodachi), and the usually white circle in it a pale green colour, to represent the White (Holy) Materia. The blade of the Masamune is aflame, representing Sephiroth's burning rage. The serpentine swirls of Lifestream about the Buster Sword represent Gaia's (as well as Aerith's and Zack's) support of Cloud&Co. Orbiting the Planet are ten Materia spheres, two of each kind of Materia: Summon (red), Command (yellow), Magic (green), Support (blue), Independent (purple). And then there's Bugenhagen (or Gaffer Bugen, as I choose to call him), floating about in his Planetarium, or perhaps in space (mind you, he's not perched on top of that levitating green ball of his any more - since he's dead, I reckon he no longer needs it to float about). Oh, how I loved that old git. For some reason, I think elderly people are adorable. Btw, I've decided that he was secretly a Cetra/an Ancient - hence the green eyes.
I was quite proud of this piece - but then I coloured it. :[ Now I'm sad.
Btw, that's his chin protruding from under his moustache, NOT HIS LIP. Also, he's SKINNY. And has a billiard ball for a head - round and shiny. I him~

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
